What are the Jet Community Awards?
The annual Jet Community Awards aim to reward those individuals and /or organisations who work tirelessly to improve the lives of local families and community members.
Who can enter?
Individuals and / or organisations whose work benefits communities throughout South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland.
Send in your own entry if you are involved with or run a community project, or you can nominate any person or organisation you think deserves to be acknowledged and rewarded.
What can you win?
Prizes totalling R1 million will be awarded in 2010.
Each regional finalist wins R15 000, and the seven overall category winners each win R75 000 in prize money.
Regional and final category winners will also benefit from media coverage of the 2010 Awards.
CATEGORIES FOR ENTRY
1. Education
Organisations / individuals focusing on school-level programmes of excellence in literacy, maths, science and technology.
2. We care
Organisations / individuals who focus on:
a) People with disabilities, specifically in terms of care, support and empowerment;
b) Abused women and orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) specifically affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
3. Vukuzenzele
Entrepreneurs and development centres that help create jobs and stimulate economic development. There are three awards in this category, namely:
a) Awarding black (African, Coloured, Asian) women in business;
b) Awarding small businesses in rural areas;
c) Awarding youth (18 – 35 years of age) in small businesses.
4. Environmental Waste Management
Organisations / individuals who focus on reducing or eliminating waste production as far as possible so that there is less impact on the environment.
Rules
1. Previous entrants may enter again
2. Previous national winners may not enter again.
3. To enter, a community organisation's budget must be less than R500 000 per year.
4. Prize money must be used for the betterment of the organisation / project / business and not for individual gain.
5. Winners will be required to sign a letter of understanding in accordance with this.
6. Participants and winners must agree to participate in all media-related activities organised by JET for the JET Community Awards.
7. Entries close on 31 May 2010.
